The Big Bang in Quran

The Big Bang theory states that around 12-15 billion years ago the universe came into existence from one single extremely hot and dense point, and that something triggered the explosion of this point that brought about the beginning of the universe.  The universe, since then, has been expanding from this single point over the next 13 billion years to the Cosmos we know today.

Because current instruments don't allow astronomers to peer back at the universe's birth, much of what we understand about the Big Bang Theory comes from mathematical theory and models. Astronomers can, however, see the "echo" of the expansion through a phenomenon known as the cosmic microwave background.

Allah says in the Quran:

“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?” (21:30)

In the previous verse, the Arabic words ratq and fataq are used.  The word ratq can be translated into:
  • Entity
  • Sewn to
  • Joined together
  • Closed up
The meaning of these translations all circulate around something that is mixed and that has a separate and distinct existence.

The verb fataq is translated into:
  • We unstitched
  • We clove them asunder
  • We separated
  • We have opened them.
These meanings imply that something comes into being by an action of splitting or tearing apart.  The sprouting of a seed from the soil is a good example of a similar illustration of the meaning of the verb fataq

Ever since the dawn of history, the heaven has been a mystery to mankind. Only in the past three centuries, the basic foundations of the motion of the planets in our solar system have been developed. In recent years, new technology has made it possible to look deeper into the vast space, studying galaxies, constellations, nebulae and the distant stars. In spite of all the scientific and technical advances that exist today, the origin of the earth, our solar system and the rest of the universe remains a mystery. Without using the valuable information that Allah Has Given in the Holy Qur’an, it will continue to be so. Several theories have been developed. As more observations are collected by the space telescope and the deep space probes, the theories are dramatically revised, corrected or even scraped in favor of new ones.

The Contribution of Water

In the above verse Allah is demonstrating His might and power to the unbelievers. In this demonstration, He is telling two very important things:

  1. The beginning of the creation of the heavens and the earth
  2. The main ingredient that all living creatures are made of
Since the heavens and the earth, before their creations were one entity, therefore it maybe concluded that everything in the heavens and the earth came from the same origin.

In the above verse, Allah Has associated the beginning of the creation of the heavens and the earth, with the identification of water as the main substance of life.

Allah says in the Quran:

And He it is Who has created the heavens and the earth in six Days and His Throne was on the water, that He might try you, which of you is the best in deeds. But if you were to say to them: "You shall indeed be raised up after death," those who disbelieve would be sure to say, "This is nothing but obvious magic." (11:7)

In the above verse, Allah says that He Has created the heavens and the earth in six days and His Throne WAS on the water. Using the past tense “WAS”, indicates that water was present before the creation of the heavens and the earth.

(Recent observations support the presence of water at the beginning of creation).

The presence of water before the forcible disintegration of the primary (massive) entity that was joining the heavens and the earth, suggests that WATER MIGHT HAVE CONTRIBUTED SOMEHOW TO THE ONSET OF THIS FORCIBLE DISINTEGRATION

The forcible disintegration of the massive entity must have produced fragments of all sizes as well as huge clouds of dust. The forcible disintegration also must have generated tremendous heat (radiation) that caused some of the water to break down to its elements, hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen and the oxygen were then incorporated with the huge clouds of dust. When hydrogen is subjected to extreme heat, reactions known as “atomic fusion” occur. The fusion process releases tremendous amount of energy in the form of heat and transforms hydrogen to helium (such process occurs in the sun, and in most of all other stars). It has been discovered that hydrogen and helium are the most dominant gases in the universe.

let’s see Translation of Surah Falaq by Tahir Ul Qadri:

“Take the refuge in My Omnipotence from all created things, which have been formed by an explosion and ordered by My Lordship attribute. I am your lord, the ruler of the Galaxies, which I have scattered into the infinite reaches of the space through a magnificent explosion that started from initial singularity, and, through this explosion a lot of forces, energies radiations and reactions came into existence, which may be damaging for life, so take refuge from those evils. Because whoever takes refuge in Me is protected from all evils”. (113:1-5)

Conclusion

The Holy Quran and Islam are filled with scientific statements and notions.  These are statements of Allah Almighty describing how He created things on earth and in the Universe.  What's most amazing is that all of these scientific statements and notions had been proven to be in perfect agreement with science and our modern-day scientific discoveries.  Allah Almighty made the Noble Quran be Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) Everlasting Divine Miracle and proof for Prophethood. The Holy Book certainly stood the test of time 1,500 years ago with Its Claims, Prophecies and Miraculous language eloquence, and it does again and again in our day today with Its overwhelming agreement with science and discoveries that were not known to man 1,500 years ago.

Allah Almighty Said:

We will show them our signs in the Universe and inside their selves, until it will become quite clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient as regards your Lord that He is a witness over all things?  (41:53)
